Tamoil SA, a subsidiary of Oilinvest, announces the grand opening of the Herrlisberg Nord service area under the renowned Autogrill brand. This new location, opened on October23, represents a significant step in Tamoil SA’s mission to elevate the travel experience and expand our commitment to sustainable infrastructure and customer-focused services across Switzerland. Located on the A3 motorway between Sargans and Basel—a major route with over 60,000 vehicles passing daily—the site incorporates Avolta’s highly popular GranBar, a SPAR express as well as local burger favourite Holy Cow!, all of which reflect our commitment to exceptional service and sustainability.
As part of our 30-year partnership with Avolta, announced in July 2022, Tamoil SA has created a convenient and eco-friendly destination for food, retail, and refuelling. Herrlisberg Nord stands out not only for its modern design but also for its focus on locally sourced ingredients and innovative energy solutions. This one-stop concept aligns with Tamoil SA’s drive to support communities through quality offerings and sustainable practices, reducing our carbon footprint while delivering a memorable travel experience.
“At Tamoil SA, our vision is to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our operations, offering customers quality, comfort, and care at each stop,” said Hans Boesch, Manager of Tamoil’s Retail Network. “Herrlisberg Nord will be our largest service station in German-speaking Switzerland and a leading example of sustainability. Currently, 4 ultra-rapid EV chargers (300 kW) that can charge 8 vehicles simultaneously are available to customers. With a power connection extensible up to 7,000 amperes, the Herrlisberg site boasts one of the largest capacities in the canton of Zurich, allowing for the installation and use of up to 23 charging stations. Last but not least, 580 solar panels generate much of the electricity required on-site. We’re excited to collaborate with Avolta, an experienced partner with a shared commitment to meeting the evolving needs of modern travellers.”
The service area includes Avolta’s Italian-inspired GranBar, offering Kimbo Coffee alongside fresh pastries, sandwiches, and pizzas made from local ingredients. Swiss burger brand Holy Cow! provides fresh, fast, and gourmet meals, while the 24/7 SPAR express store allows travellers and locals to pick up essentials at any hour.
Walter Seib, CEO Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, Avolta, said: “Switzerland is a key market for Avolta, with operations spanning travel retail, F&B and convenience. We are honored to have been chosen as a partner by Tamoil SA for this long-term contract for the Herrlisberg Nord service area. We’re committed to making the journey as rewarding as the destination. Easily identified by its shining red A, the Autogrill sign is a beacon of comfort for motorists, promising gourmet food and authentic coffee at a level of quality not typically expected at a rest area. While market trends in F&B will evolve over the course of the 30-year concession, Avolta’s ability to adapt its commercial offer ensures we will meet the changing preferences of travelers over time.”
Designed with sustainable elements such as photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, and the possibility to install up to 23 electric vehicle charging stations, Herrlisberg Nord embodies Tamoil SA’s goals for a greener, customer-centred future. The service area’s contemporary use of glass and wood creates an inviting space for travellers to rest, recharge, and enjoy.
